TRAVELOGUE OF AN UNKNOWN CITY

Travelogue of an Unknown City (2007/09) takes its starting point in a compilation of material from a wide range of different geographies. The material consists of video, audio, photos and narratives about the respective places derived from a variety of sources. The exact identity of location is not in focus. Dispersed are short excerpts from guidebooks taken out of context, a type of literature aimed at the tourist, the other. Fragmented narratives are communicated in the form of subtitles, leaving the voice of the narrator open. The piece becomes a continuous search for the memory and identity of a place- an imaginary geography.

The audio, which does not necessarily correspond to the image, is recorded with binaural microphones making this a piece specifically for headphones.
